Maria & Burki

back at Monticule

Once upon a time…

…we’re talking about the year 2019 - something hit Maria and Burki. Not a virus, but a small spark that unexpectedly grew into a warm little flame. Neither of them was looking for a soulmate; they were simply out to have fun. And somehow, at a festival called “Monticule” in the South of France, they found something anyway.

To be more accurate, a guy with blue lipstick and extremely tight unicorn pants found Maria at a water fountain - because he really liked her glasses. His name: Joachim. Maria thought, Wow, this person is so nice. He must be gay. We’ve never met a friendlier guy at a festival. So she figured: let’s become friends with him. And by “we,” she meant Chrissie and herself, because the two of them were off on a little adventure back then.

As it turned out, Joachim and his friends took great care of the girls - more or less adopting them - feeding them the finest cashew nuts, ice-cold Prosecco and freshly brewed pocket-rocket espresso (the girls were true festival beginners: no snacks, and absolutely unaware that you should NEVER, under any circumstances, pitch your tent next to the toilets). The guys also introduced them to Philipp, Benni, and a late riser called “Gurki” or something like that, who would later reveal his deep passion for dancing with cucumbers.

Over the next two days, the friend groups blended, and some of them even had their first magical experiences together. All in all, the newly formed crew fell completely in love with this cozy little festival tucked away in the beautiful countryside of France. They sipped the bubbliest Crémant, listened to the finest electronic music, and dressed up in their glitteriest, most fabulous outfits.

On Sunday, Chrissie and Maria had to leave early for their 6 a.m. Monday flight (honestly, who books that?). But since they discovered that the guys also lived in Munich, they made plans to meet again soon. And a few weeks later, it actually happened. While Chrissie and Philipp bailed on the “date,” Burki and Maria went through with it - and, well, you can guess the rest.

On June 20, 2026 - exactly seven years after Maria and Burki first met - we want to celebrate this wonderful coincidence with all of you! Although the “Monticule” festival didn’t overcome the Covid years, the beautiful place and its lovely inhabitants Richard, Lilo & Paul, are still there, ready to welcome us with tons of Crémant. So let’s bring our little sparks back to the hill [monticule] of Domaine de Gayfié and revive the spirit of Monticule together!
